Wellington High School is the only, co-educational school in central Wellington. We are only a 10 minute walk to the downtown area of our fantastic capital city!
There are 1250 students at Wellington High, of whom 66 are international students. Established in 1886, this innovative and vibrant school has a long history of welcoming international students starting with Colombo Plan students in the 1960s. Currently we have students from China, Japan, Germany, Canada, the US, Vietnam, South Korea, Bangladesh, Russia, Norway, Switzerland and Austria.
At Wellington High School we have high expectations that all our students will achieve their personal goals. Our long-term international students are prepared for university or polytechnic study either in New Zealand or overseas. Our short-term students enjoy studying and learning in a new culture.

Wellington High School offers a varied choice of subjects, high quality teaching, small classes, tailored programmes and excellent facilities. We are well known for our strengths in technology, art and design, music, science and IT.
Students are placed with a family matched as closely as possible to the requirements on the application form which students sent Wellington High School. Living with a New Zealand family helps students learn about the New Zealand way of life and improve their English language. Host families make students welcome and, when they first arrive, help students to find their way around the city and to Wellington High School. Our homestay parents are kind, inclusive and experienced.
