A boys' school, we are passionate about boys' education. Our mantra is that we want to Build Men for Life. We want our students to be good sons, brothers, fathers and uncles, so values such as respect, responsibility, compassion, integrity are part of daily school life. Always the students are urged to aim for Personal Excellence in everything they do. Pursuit of excellence in academic life is the most important aspect but we also believe it is important that the strengthening of the boy's character is integral as well. Leadership and etiquette are part of the school's mantra. 89.6% of our students gained success in all levels of NCEA in 2014. King's High School is the school of choice for parents of boys in Dunedin.

Founded in 1936, the school has undergone a complete re-building process. Consequently, facilities are modern and current. Students are taught in specialist classrooms; the curriculum is wide and varied, offering opportunities to all students. ESOL is available on every line of the timetable. There is a modern Performing Arts Centre cater for music and drama interests; a wide range of sports available, all either coached or managed by school staff, and expansive grounds for team sports. The Outdoor Education programme is particularly popular with international students.
