Summary

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the tourism, travel, or aviation industry with individuals who can support and enhance the visitor experience, and through their skills and knowledge uphold the importance of tourism to the New Zealand economy. The qualification will benefit the community by enhancing New Zealand's tourism visitor experiences and bringing economic benefits to the country.

Graduates with the Visitor Experience strand will be able to engage with, and support visitors in a variety of Tourism visitor experience settings. Applied skills and knowledge will be at entry level to meet the needs of a Tourism business employing new staff and seasonal workers, working under limited supervision.

Graduates with the Tourism and Travel strand will have core knowledge, skills and personal attributes sufficient for entry level positions in the New Zealand Tourism and Travel industry. Holders of this qualification will be capable of operating at an entry level under limited supervision.

Graduates of the Aviation strand will have core aviation knowledge, skills and personal attributes sufficient for entry level positions in the New Zealand Aviation industry. Holders of this qualification will be capable of operating at an entry level under limited supervision.

Indigenous values of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga in relation to travel and tourism may be encompassed in the holistic outcomes of this qualification.
