Launch your hospitality career by mastering the fine art of coffee making, learn how to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, learn about functions and events service, food safety and pick up a host of other practical hospitality skills. This course is an excellent way to get your hospitality career underway. You’ll come away with a Level 3 certificate and a Certificate in Basic Food Safety. 

Train in a real bar, gain work experience in our campus cafe and get lots of support and encouragement from your industry-experienced tutors. You can also build your skills further by following this course with a Bartender (Level 4) course.

This course is also part of the government led Youth Guarantee Programme. If you are aged 16-24, and meet the course entry requirements, you can attend this course for FREE.

Entry criteria

DOMESTIC STUDENTS

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old
  • Applicants must be a NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification or equivalent or meet the requirements of the NZMA Entry Assessment


INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification or equivalent or meet the requirements of the NZMA Entry Assessment
  • If English is your second language, we may get you to sit an English Language Assessment.
  • If you are an international student, you also need to have an English level of 5.0 IELTS or equivalent* with no band score lower than 5.0.
  • You must have travel and medical insurance and a valid visa.

* Other English Tests / evidence may be approved as advised by NZQA
